Things to do on the Plateau


There are a lot of things to see, do, and discover on the Cumberland Plateau and our surrounding areas... 

Art Circle Public Library

The Crossville Depot - featuring daily coffee, tea and candy.

Cumberland County Playhouse - A non-profit professional performing arts resouce, and one of the 10 largest professional theaters in rural America.

Homestead House Museum - Located in the historic Homesteads, it has recently been added to the historical landmarks of the Homesteads.

Military Memorial Museum - A tribute to our military. 

The Palace Theatre - A community theatre featuring art exhibits from local artists and musical concerts.

Pioneer Hall Museum - First building in Cumberland County to be placed on the National Register of Historic Places and listed with the Tennessee Hertiage Trails.  

Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area - Great place for kayaking or whitewater canoeing.  Natural highligts include natural arches, waterfalls, overlooks, caves, natural bridges, lakes, streams, and rocks. 

Catoosa Wildlife Management Area - Occupies 80,000 acres on the Cumberland Plateau.  Gravel and dirt road wind through this wildlife area.

Center Hill Dam and Lake - A 64 mile long resevoir with 415 miles of shoreline.  Located on the Caney Fork River.  Excellent place to hike, swim, camp, or fish.  Also on lake are 8 marinas, 5 restaurants, 1 State Park, and 9 Army Corps recreation areas.  

Crossville Centennial Park - A 40 acre park with lighted playground, softball fields, horseshoe pits, basketball courts, sand volleyball courts, tennis courts, covered picnic areas and a half mile walking trail.

Cumberland County Community Complex - This is home to many community activities, such as, Pioneer Days, Rodeos, Truck Pulls and our County Fair.

Cumberland Mountain State Park - 1,562 acres of the largest timbered plateau in America, offering many recreational activities such as, camping, backpacking, and hiking.  A 35 acre lake offers fishing, row boating, and picnicing on its shores.  There are also numerous playgrounds, tennis courts, horseshoe pits, volleyball, basketball and shuffleboard courts, and several covered pavilions for family get togethers. 

The plateau offers several National and State Parks - Edgar Evins State Park, Fall Creek Falls State Park, Obed Wild and Scenic River National Park, Ozone Falls State Natural Area, Rock Island State Park...these are just to name a few.

Also close by is the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Gatlinburg, and Pigeon Forge.
